Bilikal Rangaswami Betta trek

It was Thursday. Desperately wanted some break from daily busy life. After couple of calls and random search in Google, we (me, Umesh, Jonson, William) finally decided to trek Bilikal Rangaswami Betta near Kanakapura. This hill is located around 55 km from Bangalore. You can even ride a bike till top but we decided to go by foot.

It was just 1 hour trek to the top. Trek route totally covered with forest. In the top of the hill, there is a Rangaswamy temple carved underneath a giant monolithic rock. We spent 3 hours there on top, hung around the temple exploring the hill and enjoying the aerial view of the place. There was greenery everywhere; it was real treat for the eyes.
Our descending took us less than 45 min. totally it was a good trek.

Routing:

Total distance 53 km to 60km depends which place you stay in Bangalore
Bangalore – Harohalli (Kanakapura Road) 38 km
Harohalli take 2nd left immediately after the bus stand towards Dodda Maralavadi 11 km. (1st left goes through the Harohalli town to Anekal).
Dodda Maralavadi – Take right towards Koonala Doddi 7 km.
Koonala Doddi – Anjaneya Temple (From where trek begins) 2 km.
(When you enter Koonala Doddi village, take left just before the temple. After 100 mtrs you will get ‘Y’ junction. Take left here towards mud road. From here just stick to the main mud road till you reach Anjaneya temple where you can park your vehicle beside the temple). Surprisingly we saw the board of Bannerghatta National Park near the temple saying illegal entry is prohibited so and so; which means this hill area and forest belongs to Bannerghatta National Park!!!! Yes it was unbelievable!

Happy touring

Ramanagara Night Trek

"Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not"
by Ralph Waldo Emerson

Are O Sambha !!!! Do you remember this dialogue!! Who doesn’t!  After a long time we planned to go for Night Trek to Ramadevara Betta a place, Indian Classic movie Sholay is filmed.

Ramadevara Betta is situated near the Ramangara a place 50 km out of Bangalore City. This is one of the best places for day hike and even for night trek. The short distance from the Bangalore make this place quick visit and one of the top visited places from Bangalore.

There is one Rama temple on the middle of the hill by which name is arrived to the hill.
The climb is not very strenuous and there are nearly 450 steps to reach this lovely temple. The climb is quite pleasant as weather was so cold at night.

Before you reach the main temple there are other smaller temples of Shiva, Hanuman and Ganapati on the way. Once you reach the top you get to see a beautiful pond. On the right of the pond you can see a Rameshwara shrine, a Parvati shrine and a choultry construction of KempeGowda times. On the other side of the pond you have the Pattabhi Rama temple. In the temple entrance you can see the image of Lord Rama pardoning the demon Kaakasura.

The beautiful part of our night trek is Star Gazing and watch every step of Sun rising.

Please note: Night trek is not an easy task. You should have prior information about the place and you should be minimum of 5 people. And do not forget to carry torch + woolen cloth to bear the cold and medicines. These are must.

Route:
Only one best way from Bangalore is, take Bangalore – Mysore state highway Kengeri – Bidadi … Once you hit the Ramanagara town just keep looking right side. You have to take right turn where you can find the arch. Take right turn and from there it is just 3 km to the foot hills of the Ramadevara betta. Total distance will not cross 50-55 km from Bangalore.

 Happy touring..
